Prof. Kate Heal

Kate Heal is Chair in Catchment Biogeochemistry at the School of GeoSciences, The University of Edinburgh. Her research encompasses biogeochemical cycling and diffuse water pollution, notably: aquatic carbon, nutrients and metals; land-use effects on water quality; and the use of waste materials and wetlands for water pollution treatment. Kate has a particular interest in assessing and understanding sustainable solutions for phosphorus capture from sewage effluent and re-use as a fertiliser in circular economy approaches.
