Prof. Mark Sutton
Mark Sutton is based at the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology. Since 1986, he has focused primarily on the emission, behaviour and fate of ammonia in the atmosphere. Since 2012 Mark has been working with UNEP supporting their work through the Global Programme of Action on the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities (GPA), leading the provision of science advice on nutrients to the GPA 3 rd and 4th Intergovernmental Review (IGR-3, Manila). This subsequently led to his leadership of the Global Overview on Nutrient Management for UNEP ‘Our Nutrient World’ (2013) and his spear-heading of the INMS project as a developing mechanism of science support for the emerging ‘nitrogen policy arena’. He was instrumental in piloting the Resolution on Sustainable Nitrogen Management adopted in March 2019 at the UN Environment Assembly (UNEP/EA.4/Res.14) and in launching the Global Nitrogen Campaign, in Colombo in October 2019, including the Nitrogen Song by Grammy® Award winner Ricky Kej.
